This is a powerpoint file that introduces the concepts and steps required to produce a high contrast drawing in pen and ink and or marker. Stippling is used to create a tonal shift or to blend the background with the main figure. Vocabulary terms and discussion questions are included in the powerpoint. High-key, low-key, contrast, implied line, and emphasis are terms of focus. Many examples of both student and non-student work are provided for the discussion questions. Non-student work includes clickable web links to access and download those images for your personal educational/fair use rights classroom usage. There is a practice slide which could be used as a printable worksheet to practice stippling and to practice a very simple grid silhouette drawing in a few minutes time. The powerpoint is approximately 12 slides long and is appropriate for middle school or entry level 9/10th grade art students. The assignment additionally employs the grid drawing method to complete the assignment, students should have a basic understanding of how to create a grid drawing. I also have a powerpoint available on basic grid drawing for download on teachers-pay-teachers.
