Changes I have made have included frame order and introduction: for example, the sentence with the blank appears first (closed sentence) and students are to use prior knowledge and context clues (since they are high use words, and not specific vocabulary, this will tend more to language structure) to correctly guess/figure out the high frequency word first. The picture comes in next to reinforce the word/sentence plus allows question prompts from the teacher, scaffolding or discussion building on concepts or vocabulary. The high frequency word is last to appear to reinforce word recognition and spelling.

These words are 80-100 of the Fry list of most common words, meant to build and support fluency in both reading and writing. Activities are easy going and lower the affective filter, many kids enjoy the pictures and interact readily.
