I put this sight word program together for my kindergartners. This is a supplemental program that I add to their book packs, as part of their nightly reading homework. I do this program to help them learn their first 50 high frequency words. This also boosts their reading and writing skills. This program is completely individualized to each learner. I've even cut the lists in half for my special education learners. There are 5 lists of words, with 10 words on each list. After students can read the words on the lists fluently at home, parents sign off on the list, the child brings it back to school, and I test them using the assessment list of words. If the child passes, I sticker their list and send it home. I then put the next list of words in their book pack.
I laminate the assessment lists so that they are reusable. The assessment list is the same list, but the words are in different order, so that the child cannot memorize the order. As they pass the lists, I check them off on the checklist that I've provided.
When students pass all 5 lists, I give them an award. Then I send the lists home again, starting with list 1, and have them practice writing them at home. I follow through with the same procedure as reading them.
I have attached a reading checklist, and a writing checklist for you. I have also attached a parent letter for reading the words, and for writing the words. This is really an easy program to keep running, and the end result is totally worth it!
