Abstract art can be a difficult concept to teach visual art students. When I start introducing the idea of abstraction, I often base it in realism to help students grasp the concept. This project has students use natural inspiration to create abstract designs by tracing shadows to create patterns.
In addition to covering abstract art, students are also walked through the process of using watercolor to build shadows and highlights to create a realistic painting of an object.

➢Lesson plan (each lesson plan includes a big idea, essential questions, objectives, art standards, writing and literacy standards, supply list, and a step by step breakdown on how to present this assignment.)
