Has senioritis already begun? Do you need an extra boost of motivation? Do you want to kick your seniors out the door with some momentum! Mapped specifically for a senior level math class (arithmetic and geometric series), High School Diploma vs. College Degree is a debate many students are fighting.
In this 11 page document you will be given a mapping to the Content Standards, an outline for how to implement the project, handout resources for students to use, and an answer key. In all it is three different assignments --
-- In “Does Education Pay?”, students will use six sets of weekly salary figures based on education level. These numbers have been inspired by actual figures from the U.S. Department of Labor. Students will be familiarized with sigma, summation notation.
-- In “Savings & Debt”, students will use arithmetic sequences to make financial calculations. On the student loan problems, I left out the accumulating interest to keep it in an arithmetic sequence. The final problem is a challenging recursive sequence that includes the interest that deals with a first mortgage.
-- In “Earning Potential”, students will write geometric series expressions to calculate long term earnings for 6 different education levels. I have included a second page, if you’d like them to research 6 careers on their own as well as a rubric for an infographic project that can tie it in.
EVERYTHING IS ALIGNED TO THE COMMON CORE! YAY!
