Drawing is such a performance based class that a written final is out of the question! In this package, I've prepared a Performance and Portfolio based Final Exam for Drawing students at any level. This exam is designed to show growth and real-world skills in portfolio preparation. ***This exam is designed for students who have access to cameras, the internet, and computers.***
PART 1 of the Exam: Starting the first week of the semester, Students create an unassisted self-portrait as a pre-test. The teacher should hang on to these until the last project of the of the semester when the students will create another unassisted self-portrait (offering an amazing visual of their growth - the students are always blown away by how far they've come!) The final self-portrait is 50% of the Final Exam Grade and a rubric is included for this.
PART 2 of the Exam: Before the day of the final, Students create a digital slide show in the program of your choice. The student handout included gives a slide-by-slide break down of what the students should include - artist statements, works from the semester, their pre-test & final self-portraits, etc. The digital slide show portfolio is 34% of the Final Exam Grade and a Rubric is included for this.
PART 3 of the Exam: On the day of the exam, students will create a spontaneous drawing based off a teacher given prompt (I usually use an inspiring quote from a master artist). Students should photograph and include this as the last slide in their portfolio. This image is 16% of the final exam grade and a Rubric is included for this.
Students email you their digital portfolio (or share it via Google Drive, or another system like Blackboard) and they can take everything home - no more worrying about trying to get art back to them next semester or trying to grade everything before the exam period is over.
