During a Halloween Creative Writing Lesson (see Trick or Treat: Creative Writing Prompts for Halloween Writing
), the students, teachers, and I were talking about extensions we could add to the project and decided to try a Round-Robin writing activity using some of the story starters from the previous lesson and more. It was a big hit for both the students and teachers. When the students begged for more, I knew this was a one-day lesson that could be used in any English class with the right prompts. So, I created these new prompts related to the trials and tribulations of daily high school life. Have fun with them!
This lesson includes 40 different prompts about all aspects of high school life—tests, sports, lunch, teachers, classes, and special events. I’ve included instructions for the three different variations of the activity we tried out with our students, but in reality, there are many different ways you could use these prompts—journal topics or bellringer activities, individual writing assignments throughout the year, or as prewriting tools for a variety of other written assignments.
Please take a look at the thumbnail images above to get a better idea of what exactly is included in the lesson and if you decide to try it out, please leave feedback to let me know how you used it and if your students loved it as much as ours did!
