PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This lesson is compatible with the High School Next Generation Science Standards* HS-LS1-2. The standards ask that the students, “[d]evelop and use a model to illustrate the hierarchical organization of interacting systems that provide specific functions within multicellular organisms.”

Because the lesson includes a lab report, it is also compatible with the following Common Core English Language Arts-Literacy Standards.
Writing, History, Science, and Technical Subjects.9-10.2(A-F)

Dig deep into the functions of cells with these great activities and labs!

Here is what’s included in the lesson:

-Clickable table of contents

-Teacher materials list and notes

-6 pages of vocabulary cards related to the topic of cells

-A Student Objectives Sheet listing all the cells objectives expected to be met by each student

-7 pages of notes discussion questions which cover the topic of cells; these questions can easily be answered while students cooperatively work in groups using either a textbook, the Internet, or a Power Point Presentation

-7 pages of activities, including
1) Comparing images under different types of microscopes, including a power point presentation with images from electron and light microscopes
2) Cell membrane simulation

-7 page Project with Rubric, including
1) Examining a chicken digestive system

-5 page Lab, including
1) Osmosis lab

-Lab Report with Rubric

-3 page assessment covering the lesson objectives and Next Generation Science Standards*

-A comprehensive lesson plan including:
Title, Grade, Objectives, NGSS*, Materials Needed, Connections to Real Life, Connections Across the Curriculum, Anticipated Difficulties with the Content, Pre-Requisite Knowledge, Key Vocabulary, Lesson Delivery Method, Examples for Better Understanding, Assessment, Wrap Up and Review, Extensions, and Modifications.

This lesson can be used in any High School Life Science or Biology course.
