Product Description

This high school art lesson teaches students how to mix color and create a painting that shows depth and dimension through the use of tints and shades. Students use only the primary colors plus white to create this mystery button design. The simple shape and broken down shapes make this easy for beginners to learn basic painting techniques in a nonthreatening way. Included is a PowerPoint presentation also in PDF form that includes instructions, samples of student work, templates to transfer the image, a video demonstration, and tips and pointers to avoid common beginner mistakes. Value scale worksheets with the color wheel are used to practice mixing the colors and getting the tints and shades correct before students jump into the project. Rubrics are also included to ensure students understand the objectives of the project and for easy grading.

This lesson is meant to follow my Introduction to Painting Worksheets or students must have experience and prior knowledge of how to mix paint and understand how to use color theory. This lesson is also included as a bundle here.
