This quantitative, inquiry based laboratory exercise for physics or physical science classes examines the forces of friction. The exercise measures the coefficients of kinetic and static friction of different surfaces. Applicable to Physical Science, Physics, Honors Physics, and AP Physics classes.
This exercise uses a friction kit
sold by Carolina Biological, but can be easily adapted for use with common materials.
Instructor's Notes and Student Worksheets are included.
This exercise covers portions of the following California State Science Standards
Physics - Motion and Forces
Investigation and Experimentation
