Students will read an excerpt from chapter 5 of Harriet Jacobs' Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl in which Jacobs recounts some of the quotidian degradation of life as a slave.
The excerpt is followed by four multiple choice question and four open-ended questions. In addition to the answer to the multiple choice questions, the answer key also has explanations and possible responses to the open-ended questions.
The questions that follow the passage test a variety of reading comprehension and literary analysis skills. Students who regularly complete these reading comprehension tasks will be well prepared for any reading comprehension test, including common core, ACT and SAT.
