What educators are saying

I find my ELL students struggle with these without annotated reading. But once they have those skills, they do like the content, as do my honors students.
Great resource to have. Articles are interesting and are easy to access and print. Makes it really easy to leave as an emergency lesson plan.

    Description

As a science teacher, I know how hard it is to find a meaningful sub plan that a substitute can complete with your class. Why not choose science literacy reading strategies as the lesson goal every time you have to be out of the classroom?

This Bundle contains all six of my best selling science readings. They work great as sub plans! Save over 10% by buying this bundle! You essentially get 1 free!

As more focus around the country is put on science literacy, I am working to improve my students’ science reading abilities by adapting literature articles, creating shorter articles at the high school reading level. Each of my 5 adaptations is 3 pages long and contain language calculated by several online reading level calculators to be at the 9th/10th grade reading level. I purposely space the reading out onto 3 pages to give students room to underline, circle, and write in the margin.

Each adaptation has 10-12 reading questions that encourage students to think and analyze the experiment in the reading. Some questions are easy (to build student confidence) and some are more challenging.

Five of the articles included in this bundle are adapted from real scientific journal articles; I adapted them to bring them to a 9-10th grade reading level. One is a shorter science article I wrote to explain how identical twins are different and is based on research from several sources.

To check out each one, see below. They are also sold separately.

    1. Can Cat Brain Parasites Cause Bad Driving?

    2. H1N1 Virus on an Airplane!

    3. Zombie Ants and Fungal Parasites

    4. Great White Shark Transcriptome

    5. Are there Prions in Our Milk?

    6. How Identical are Identical Twins?

Check out these graphing practice activities that are also great for sub plans!
