Higher Order Thinking (HOT) Math Warm-up!
Every week, the students analyze, compare, draw, and explain math concepts!
This file contains one higher order thinking math question for every day of the year!
Simply project the day's problem on the board, and have the students work through the problem on a white board or a piece of paper. After you have given the students enough time to work on the problem, allow them to talk about the problem in groups or pairs. Then discuss the problem as a whole class. It is important that the students do most of the talking to help them understand math concepts.
There is no Answer Key because the point of this exercise is to keep students thinking and talking about math. Once students know the answer, they don’t care to listen about “the process” to finding the answer, which is the most important part!
Perfect for Common Core and great for helping your students understand concepts better.
Every questions is common core aligned for first grade.
The math concepts in this file include:
Comparing (Which is taller? heavier? slower?)
This file can be used year after year with every new first grade class!
