I often assess my students by posing a HOT (Higher Order Thinking) question at the end of a lesson. I like this format because it's not as time consuming as a research paper and, with practice, students start to put together the pieces of the puzzle I'm trying to lay out for them. I developed this rubric as a part of my evaluation to use these HOT questions as my assessments.
I have my students use four different colors to identify the evidence, explanation, hypothesis and transition words in the example. We do this as a group so they can visually see the formula at work.
I'd love feedback if you choose to use this! Always looking to improve my students' writing in Social Studies
