Hink pinks are word riddles that help develop vocabulary, rhyming awareness and critical thinking. They are also really fun. Hink pinks are one syllable rhyming words (ex. What is the hink pink for a large hog? a big pig). Hinky pinkies are two syllable rhyming word pairs (ex. What is the hinky pinky for a baby cat's gloves? kitten's mittens). While I love hink pinks, many of my students in speech therapy struggle with metalinguistic tasks and humor. I created this product to add a visual component to the task to help them comprehend the concept of these riddles.
I have used this product with later elementary to middle school students with language disorders. In the regular education setting, I would use this with third grade and above. You could use the pictures with younger students to work on rhyming skills.
