Inspired by some of the pictographs from Hiragana in 48 minutes, and introducing a lot of my own pictographs, these two short stories and accompanying lesson plans provide an innovative and fun new method to effectively teach the basic 46 hiragana, as well as the combined/blended sounds and voiced sounds in only three lessons! This is a proven method that has been successful in numerous schools since 2013. It has been taught to children from 5 years old all the way up to adults! The stories are easily adapted to suit different ages and audiences. Although I have stated that this resource has a teaching duration of 3 hours, these stories are so useful that you can build on them and use them in numerous ways, even as a basis for a term's work on hiragana. Once the students hear the two stories and remember them they will remember their hiragana so easily. The first story incorporates 27 hiragana and the second story has the remaining 19.
I teach the hiragana over three lessons and by the fourth I can have the students begin to read simple books. Students love that they are characters in the stories and it makes them recall the characters so much quicker. Most times the students cheer and clap at the end of the story and ask for them to be read/performed over and over. That certainly is great feedback that they love them.
