I have highlighted advanced vocabulary words and created a list of comprehension questions that go along with the article.
I have my students work in small groups. Each group member takes turns reading aloud a few lines from the article (this increases their confidence is pronunciation and voice projection without putting them on the spot like reading in front of the entire class would do).
Group members then make educated guesses about the highlighted words based on context and answer the comprehension questions.
