Hispanics and Spanish Literature Bingo Cards are a great way to review stories read in class and information related to the authors. They need to get four in a row vertically or five in a straight horizontal row. The activity is well suited for Intermediate Mid to Advance Spanish learners. I have used these Bingo cards for my Spanish Honors, AP and native/heritage speakers. It's kinda like Bingo mixed with Connect Four concept since students have to have five in a row horizontally or four in a row vertically because we covered 19 authors this year. There are a total of 16 cards. Students play with a partner so only one card per paired group.
Authors and stories used for Bingo cards:
Jorge Luis Borges - El Otro
Julio Cortázar- Continuidad de los parques
Rosa Montero- Como la vida misma
Pablo Neruda- Un perro ha muerto
Alfonsina Storni- Tú me quieres blanca
Rigoberta Menchú- (Fragment) Me llamo Rigoberta y así nació mi conciencia.
Federico García Lorca- Romance a la luna
Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz- Hombres necios
Horacio Quiroga- El hijo
Angel Balzarino- Rosa
Isaac Aisemberg- Jaque mate en dos jugadas
I have students work with a partner since they have to recall information. Students have to carefully listen to the sentences as I write them on the board and read aloud. Students then have to make a connection to an author and place on chip on the image. There are four rounds of questions. You may add more rounds of questions, if desired. Great recall and making connections activity. There are a total of 16 different Bingo cards. Distribute one Bingo card per pair of students since they're working with a partner. It encourages cooperative learning. To make it a bit more competitive, winners earn extra credit they can use towards a quiz grade or used for a missed H.W assignment. I used to give out candy as a prize, but with our new regulations, we are not allowed to give out candy. Rules and regulations vary from district to district.
This activity is a review for literature read in class during the semester or school year. We have block scheduling. Therefore, our semester is equal to a one year course.
