This is an 11 lesson historical fiction literature circle unit. This unit assumes students are in literature circles and/or already familiar with the process. Additionally, this unit refers to several popular books to use during mini-lessons, but these books can be easily substituted.
While this unit is 11 lessons, with time to read and practice, I would budget one month.
Strategies practiced include:
1- walk in a character's shoes
4- stop and jot
5- non-fiction research
6- monitor confusion
7- hero vs. bystander vs. villain
9- details vs. generalization
10- characters' speech
11- character mapping
Graphic organizers are attached. Please let me know if you have any questions!
