After being very frustrated with trying to find historical fiction texts that line up with what my students were being taught in their History class, I took matters into my own hands. What you will see is a list of Unit Topics from History Alive (and chapters where appropriate) and the title of a historical fiction text that aligns with that chapter. In addition, you will find some bullet points that can help focus readers. This resource aligns to the common core standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.7.9 Compare and contrast a fictional portrayal of a time, place, or character and a historical account of the same period as a means of understanding how authors of fiction use or alter history.
I strongly suggest using these as literature circles so that each group of students can be an expert on one of the units in their history book!
