Through an inquiry-style lesson, students in grades 2nd - 5th can learn important database skills while reading short biographies closely about historical figures that showed good citizenship.
This lesson originally was created as part of a project based learning called "Mission Possible", where 2nd graders were challenged to create a product explaining to others how to be good citizens.
Through this library skills lesson, 21st century skills will be taught as well... collaborating with peers, inquiry, drawing conclusions, sharing and gaining information from other forms of media.
This can also transfer to a literacy center either in the library or classroom setting.
There are no biographies included, instead access to a database such as Worldbook Online is required. The specific historical figures listed below can be found in Worldbook Online. However, blank cards are included for additional persons to be added.
