Have appropriate resource material on the subject available to the students or have access to the internet for students. Students will research the subject and write a summary to be displayed on the historical highway marker. The student can draw an illustration or emblem on the top of the marker. The initial aspect of the student work includes reading, researching and recording (writing) the information on the highway marker. Options include having students insert a text box onto the marker so that they can type and print the information instead of handwriting the information. Consider having pictures of your states historical markers available to students. Connections to Common Core Writing Standards.
