Historical Hoaxes to Research and Perform presents 11 plays based on an actual incident in American History that require student research. Students research specific information related to the time, place, or persons involved.
There are 4-8 research tasks in each play. Additional reading sources help students find more about American history and discover the truth behind the claims. The student who does the research reads his or her findings at the appropriate point in the play.
Developing a well-researched and finished piece brings a feeling of pride and accomplishment as young thespians perform what they have learned. Simulating an interest in American history and researching topics to create a meaningful product are the first steps in developing an appreciation and desire to know more about our country’s heritage.
Topics include the witch trials, the Boston Massacre, the Liberty Bell, and the nurse of George Washington.
