Description

Engage your students with this super fun world history activity that integrates art, history, social studies, and literacy and makes a great end of year review! Students will think critically about their chosen or assigned historical figure, time period, or major historical event as they apply their knowledge to design a custom hoodie. Before getting started with the design process, students can read a short article or view the included PowerPoint presentation to learn about the 3,000 year history of hoodies and their design. Students will use a combination of colors, patterns, symbols, and text to design their hoodies.

After designing the hoodies, students can write about or present why they chose certain symbols, colors, etc. to represent their historical figure or topic and the meaning behind each of them. This fun way to showcase learning can be used as an assessment, independent work, an early finisher activity, or a fun review activity at the end of a unit, semester, or school year. The hoodies make beautiful displays for bulletin boards, and students will love seeing each other’s work through a gallery walk.

This resource includes:

  1. 2 hoodie template for each person (all come in black & white and color options)
  2. 2-page article about the history of hoodies
  3. Student directions and design tips (including information about color psychology)
  4. Editable PowerPoint about the history of hoodies (can be used instead of the article and allows you to edit student directions)
  5. 17 different examples of hoodies to share with your students
  6. Teacher tips
  7. Blank sweater templates for additional flexibility
