This history extension pack, Old West edition, provides a unique way for students to research a specific person that impacted the “drive” out West in some way while connecting the person to the major themes of the West and Manifest Destiny.
The driver’s license format connects to the content and makes a direct personal connection for the students. You can let the students be creative and make gambling licenses, saloon owner licenses, and cowboy licenses as well.
The contents of this package include:
•Notes about the Project, Suggested Websites for Students, Recommended Music For Project
•Old West “Licensed to Drive” Project Instruction Sheet
•General “Licensed to Drive” Project Instruction Sheet
(For you to adapt and change to fit your desired topic)
•Old West “Licensed to Drive” People Sign-Up List
•Project Peer Reflection Slips
•Project Self Reflection Slips
•Sample Lesson Plan for Project, Day 1
(With objectives, standards, materials needed, lesson outline, time estimations, and differentiation strategies)
•Sample Lesson Plan for Project, Day 2
•Student License Examples
If you want to use the driver’s license project for a topic OTHER THAN Old West, I have included a general project instruction sheet.
Please feel free to change up the project to fit your needs.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments.
