This is a note-taking template that I developed for my 7th grade students. They love that it's called a History Mystery and that it doesn't seem as though they are taking notes. This also works really well with the English Language Learners (ELL or ELD) that I teach. I enjoy using this with my students and more importantly, THEY enjoy taking notes. (For the first few weeks of school, I model how to use this and then periodically remind students that they are to write the names, terms, etc. AND a description for each person, term, event, etc.) The current events section can be assigned for homework and each student can find something via an online search engine to contribute to a class discussion on current events related to the current history lesson. The template ends with a 3-2-1 summary and the student choosing an important concept to visually represent in order to complete the notes on a specific section or chapter.
