This activity is meant to be given to students at the beginning of a course or unit. It runs them through 4 essential question/statements, with which they rate their level of agreement or disagreement. They complete this independently before working in small groups to tally opinions and discuss.
One sample statement is: If most people believe something, that is usually the right choice or thing to believe.
I have found this to drive rich and sometimes contentious conversations about student values and beliefs, as a means of laying a foundation to understand why historical figures acted as they did.
