Product Description
Students will learn about the American whaling industry during the 1800s. This webquest uses a great website created by the Smithsonian. The website allows students to explore the ships, tools, daily life, and products of the whaling industry. Check out the website at:

I would like to thank Dandy Doodles for their wonderful clip art!

The webquest contains 52 questions and is a great way for students to learn more about the following topics:
• Whaling in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Artic Oceans
• Ports and Industries Connected to Whaling
• Whaling Ships and Daily Life
• Whaling Tools
• Dangers Faced by Whaling Crews
• Whaling Products and Scrimshaw

An answer sheet is included for the teacher. The webquest takes most students 35 to 60 minutes to complete depending on the age of your students. Feel free to modify this activity if needed to fit the needs of your students. I highly suggest this webquest for students in grades 6-12.
