This common core reading activity allows students to explore the Davson-Danielli and Singer-Nicolson models for cell membrane structure. The reading is adapted from a review published by Lombard in Biology Direct (2014). Critical thinking and reading comprehension questions break up the article.
The article discusses the amphipathic phospholipid composition of the cell membrane and illustrates other components of the fluid mosaic model. It contrasts the older, 1930's cell membrane model proposed by Davson-Danielli.
In alignment with the 2016 IB-SL and IB-HL Biology curriculum (1.3 applications and skills).
