Product Description
The history of Thanksgiving is a bit murky. The Pilgrims came to America and celebrated their survival by thanking God and eating a feast. We do this today. So why the confusion? The primary sources! Take a look at five primary sources and figure out what really happened on that first Thanksgiving. Students will also be given the opportunity to write and discuss their findings and determine how it affects them. The perfect personal activity for Thanksgiving!

Includes teacher instructions, five primary source texts, student questions, and a teacher key.

The sources evaluated in this activity are:
1. Excerpt of Mourt’s Relation by Edward Winslow, 1621.
2. Excerpt of Of Plimouth Plantation by William Bradford, 1621.
3. Excerpt of A Proclamation for a Day of Fasting and Prayer by Edward Rawson, 1678.
4. Excerpt of Thanksgiving Proclamation by Henry Laurens, 1777.
5. Excerpt of Thanksgiving Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln, 1863.
