This is a great integration for Black History Month or anytime you are doing a unit on Spirituals or Civil Rights Movement. This lesson was used for 5th grade, but is easily adaptable/editable for any grade level. Spirituals included are "This Little Light of Mine" and "Down By the Riverside". Both songs with lyrics are included along with the Guitar chord diagrams and chording for C, G, and D7. This could also be easily adapted to use ukulele instead of guitar (you would just need to take out the chord diagrams for guitar and insert chord diagrams for ukulele). Even without utilizing instruments, students can sing through the songs. You could also incorporate sight-singing since the written music is included.
There are a couple review sections throughout the powerpoint (Dojo review- you can use the randomizer on class dojo to answer the questions) or just delete "Dojo" and simply have a class review). This is a great way to assess during the lesson!
