An ideal activity to practice simplifying expressions, including distribution (distributive property) and combining like terms. It is designed to be very low prep, and quick to check, making it easy for the teacher to help and facilitate.
Students work in groups of four (three is fine too), to simplify individual expressions, and assist each other along the way. Then they work together and collaborate to combine each of their individual expressions to give one final answer. This makes checking their answers quick and easy.
It is designed as a stand alone activity, but could easily be incorporated into a team game of your choosing (see Point Slam game link below).
