Hello! Thank you for looking at Hmmm.. What is the New Year’s Resolution? And Uh Oh… Social Problem Solving Scenarios for New Year’s!
Lesson 1 - Hmmmmmm… What Can You Infer is the New Year’s Resolution??? Students will determine what person in each scenario made a decision to resolve by inferening the specific New Year’s Resolution. Remember a resolution is something that is decided on by a person to change for the better! Explain to the students that as they get older, they will start to hear friends and family members to talk about their resolutions! Instead of asking what each person their resolutions, it is your job to figure out what they are by inferencing!!! You will notice, as in ‘real life’, some resolutions are easier to figure out than others!! 16 inferencing scenarios – 4 pages – 1 incentive page. I recently added to record pages for your students to record the New Year's Resolutions from the presented people in the scenarios (
Lesson 2 - Uh Oh... Social Pragmatic Problem Solving Scenarios for New Year’s!
I created this lesson for my students who experience difficulty verbalizing with correct and appropriate language in social situations. ***** Especially with students who need to develop their pragmatic language skills! I find that my students need practice with specific scenarios and learn necessary things to say and how to say them.
Some of the 32 scenarios include:
• 3 scenarios with SARCASM!
• Dealing with emergency situations.
• Being honest without hurting feelings
• Initiating conversation
• Politely expressing regret
• Expressing sympathy
• Changing the subject
• Including someone in the conversation
• Using language to compromise
• Deciding on chores
• Handling New Year’s Eve social situations
• Making introductions
• Handling awkward situations
• Appropriately gaining someone’s attention
• Staying on topic
• Requesting repetition
• Answering the phone and relaying information
• Asking for help
• Calling a business to answer specific questions
• Facebook situations that could cause potential problems
The scenarios are designed for PRACTICE with the skills! 32 scenarios, 8 pages, 1 incentive page
***** Suggestion – I am all about review and conserving paper! Take these pictures and scenarios and put them in a dollar store photo album and have students read and practice the skills. Or put on index cards and have the students role-play!
Have fun! I love the holidays special events and I am thrilled when my students have success with such skills, as I know this will help them with feeling comfortable interacting during social events they will be a part of!
