In this fun, engaging holiday Smart Notebook lesson, elementary music students in Kindergarten and 1st grade will begin the process of aurally identifying how many sounds/syllables are found within word(s) and phrases that pertain to the holiday season. Students will sort pictures into various categories based upon how many sounds/syllables these word(s) and phrases contain. The pictures/icons used in this lesson are enhanced with the infinite cloning feature. Identifying patterns in word(s) and phrases is the very basic, beginning steps in the Kodaly method for preparing duration of sound, rhythm of the words, sounds per beat, etc. Colorful graphics enhance the quality of this holiday themed Kodaly based lesson. Once students have classified/categorized the pictures into the various provided categories, they will be able to check their work with the answer keys that are provided. Directions for teacher and students are provided in this fun lesson.
