Hold-ups are a great way to check for student understanding while allowing everyone to participate. These response cards can be used for individual responses or for group responses. use hold-ups during whole group instruction or during small group instruction. Simply ask a question and have students respond by holding up their answer. Questions can be answered using a,b,c,d or 1,2,3,4. Also included are cause/effect, pro/con, agree/disagree, thumbs up/thumbs down, blank cards. You can also ask yes/no or true/false questions using hold-ups.
To make hold-up cards:
Print and cut the cards (cards can be printed on paper or card stock). Laminate cards. Smaller cards can be taped to a large popsicle type stick.
