I am sharing the journal entries my students complete upon reading Holes by Louis Sachar. The assignment sheet consists of two columns, and I typically have my students select one entry from each. Column A (7 entries total) contains common-core aligned questions, requiring students to use specific text-based evidence in their responses. Column B (7 entries total) includes more creative prompts, such as: Sploosh is such an important product in the novel. What would you invent with Sploosh? Rubrics for both Column A and Column B responses are included.
