Vocabulary puzzle based on Chapters 23, 25, 26, and 28 of the novel by Louis Sachar.
There are 23 words for students to find. After they find the words in the grid, a second task asks students to write a new sentence using each word, showing its importance in Holes, or their understanding of it.
I use this type of activity to take a breather from reading to the text, and to ensure that students are familiar with the vocabulary in the novel. It's a good Friday afternoon activity, or useful for early finishers, or to give to a sub teacher. Students see the puzzle format as a fun task, and often don't even consider the second task to be difficult.
The solution is included.
