Holes ,written by Louis Sachar, is a Newbery Award Winner book published in 1998. It is an excellent book for teaching characterization, the comprehension skill of irony, and cause and effect. This unit divides the book into five sections. Each section has a list of vocabulary words with the definition as used in the book and the page number where the word is found.(Scholastic edition ISBN # 0-439-24419-6) , Each section also has an objective styled quiz - both regular and modified. The modified test (Form M) breaks the vocabulary list into smaller units and gives the page number as reference for the comprehension questions. A modified test may be used by students who require accommodations or modifications to tests. Answer keys are provided in the same format to facilitate easier grading. A final book test and final vocabulary test are also provided. The final test consists of Matching and True and False questions.
