A Little More About Managing the Book Exchange:
We simply send the family letter and 1 gift tag (color and black and white options included) home and wait for the wrapped books to return by the requested due date. We keep extra books and wrapping paper on hand just in case families are unable to provide a book for their student. We read the story poster "Holidays with the Right Family" a few times before the actual exchange day to familiarize students with the story as well as assess and reteach any students who are having difficulties with their directional terms ~ right, left, and across. On the day of the exchange, we use the story “Holidays with the Right Family” (2 options included) to facilitate the game. We’ve also included visual direction posters for the directional terms used in the game, which are great visual reminders to place in the middle of the class circle or hold up during the exchange if needed.

Above all else…Have Fun! Class Book Exchanges are not only great for the holidays, but can be done any time of the school year as a class community building activity, celebration of reading, family event, or just because your class LOVES reading and books! No matter the occasion, class book exchanges are a great way to bring your classroom community together any time of year!
