This holiday pack includes several foundational skills in geometry. Each activity has 2-3 versions for differentiated instruction. This activity was designed as a supplement to a special education program, the Unique Learning System but would be beneficial for students learning foundational geometry skills.
1. Measuring For Length
Student Objective: I will measure objects to find the length.
This activity includes pictures of holiday objects. Students will use a ruler to measure objects in inches.
2. Measuring For Perimeter and Area
Student Objective: I will measure objects to find the perimeter and area of an object.
• This activity includes a model of a present, drawn to scale. The task requires students to measure the model’s sides
in inches. Students will use the measurements to calculate
perimeter and area of the model. Select skills for this activity on the basis of individual student abilities and needs. One-inch unit
squares are provided to support area measurements.
3.Fit It in This Space
Student Objective: I will arrange and fit shapes in a designated area.
• In this activity, students will determine how to fit a set of gingerbread cookies onto a baking sheet. Gingerbread cookie cutouts are available as manipulatives.
4.Plotting a Map
Student Objective: I will use numbers to find places on a map.
• Students will create a winter wonderland map. They will place objects on a coordinate plane. Students will identify locations
on the map by citing the coordinates.
