Use this literature activity on one of those crazy days before the holidays when your schedule gets interrupted. Students use a class novel (or any novel they are reading) and choose a thoughtful gift they might give a main character. Students show a picture/drawing of the gift and write a paragraph explaining their gift choice.
Add a little twist and have students wrap the gift like an actual present and attach a gift tag using character names with an explanation on the back of the gift tag. Students share the gift with the group, and classmates make guesses about which book character is giving and receiving. As a final option, have students write a thank you note for the gift from the point of view of the character.
