Use plain copier paper, as cardstock is too heavy, and the bean will not perform its tricks for you!
Have a small bag of marbles on hand.
Have students design and color their own jumping beans. There is a Santa bean, a plain smiley bean, and a blank one for students to exercise great creativity--think Winnebago, or Mexican flag.
Place small amount of glue onto tabs, and seal, keeping the width of the bean equal to that of the long section. Curl that section around until the two ends meet on the bottom of the bean. Before gluing or taping shut, place a marble inside. This hidden marble is the secret to this lively toy.
When the glue is dry, try holding your new toy in your hand. Wriggle slightly, and the jumping bean will appear to come alive.
Place is on the raised end of a book, a few inches off the table, and the jumping bean will perform somersaults to the delight of everyone there.
