This activity helps students to practice their knowledge of place value in various forms. The students will select an answer on the handout to identify the number that represents the information in the square. The forms of showing place value are represented by: the value of a number, word form, standard form, expanded form or a word problem. This portion of the activity can be used for an assessment to measure your students’ understanding of representing place value. Each decoration piece assesses a separate form multiplication (ornaments: word form to standard form, lights: identifying value, presents: expanded form to standard form, other decorations: word problems). This will provide a quick check to see which area students are struggling in. After the handout has been completed, then the students can use the decorations pieces in the printable packet to create a Christmas tree.
