Print, Copy, Go!

Itโ€™s the day before (or the week before) break and your students are just a tad excited. Why not let them get out of their desks and move around? Print the pages out and tape them around your room. A half page worksheet has been included. Tell your students that they donโ€™t have to do these in order. As a matter of fact I would encourage students not to do these in order so that there arenโ€™t โ€˜traffic jams.โ€™ Once they are through with the holiday party walk, they can solve the included word puzzle. Thereโ€™s an additional half page worksheet at the end of this file that can be used for a bell ringer, an exit ticket or as a quick check. If you use it as a quick check, I would have students bring it to me before I let them start the holiday party walk.

I created these with a holiday party theme of snowmen selfies and sweet treats. I tried to keep the images generic so that they were usable for any winter holiday.

I like to use an activity like this in conjunction with an approved holiday class event (some people refer to these as parties!) and have students do the work while snacking and socializing.

Solve word problems leading to inequalities of the form ๐˜ฑ๐˜น + ๐˜ฒ > ๐˜ณ or ๐˜ฑ๐˜น + ๐˜ฒ < ๐˜ณ, where ๐˜ฑ, ๐˜ฒ, and ๐˜ณ are specific rational numbers. Graph the solution set of the inequality and interpret it in the context of the problem. For example: As a salesperson, you are paid $50 per week plus $3 per sale. This week you want your pay to be at least $100. Write an inequality for the number of sales you need to make, and describe the solutions.
Write an inequality of the form ๐˜น > ๐˜ค or ๐˜น < ๐˜ค to represent a constraint or condition in a real-world or mathematical problem. Recognize that inequalities of the form ๐˜น > ๐˜ค or ๐˜น < ๐˜ค have infinitely many solutions; represent solutions of such inequalities on number line diagrams.
