This is a holiday writing activity. The students fill in the blanks with the suggested words. They can also fill in the blanks with their own ideas. Then they write a final draft on the page provided, or they can write it on construction paper. My seventh and eighth grade students write this on unlined paper and then glue it to construction paper. Many of the students use different color thin-line markers to write the poem, and then they draw little symbols around the poem. Some students design a glitter border and other creative art for it. My gifted students use it as a mentor text to write their own recipe of joy poem. The finished products look nice on a bulletin board, or students can take them home to their families.
