This is a simple project that asks students to create a mini poster and present to the class about a holiday of their choice. Students are asked to name the holiday, the religion that celebrates it, the significance of the holiday, when the holiday is celebrated, and the traditional food, dress, and activities of the holiday. In addition, I have students bring in an artifact to represent an element of the holiday.
I kept this simple so that all my students including all my ELLs could participate. There are instructions, a rubric, and a template for the mini poster. It meets a number of social studies and speaking and listening standards. I had students complete this at home and present it the week before winter break.
Students can choose a holiday they celebrate or research a holiday. It was a great way for my class to learn about different holidays and to see how different religions have similar traditions.
