Oprah has her list of favorite things. Ellen has her 12 Days of Giveaways. What if you had that same platform and could share your favorite things with the world? What are a few of your favorite things? The activities included in this file will allow students to explore and explain their favorites in detail.
Of the three different activities included, either could be completed on its own, or in conjunction with the others. Activity #1 is perfect for the month of December, while Activities #2 and #3 could be used as an introductory activity to a new class or during any time of the year where self-exploration is needed.

Favorite Holiday-Related Items
Students will brainstorm a list of their favorite holiday-related items (traditions, songs, etc). From the lists generated, students may select a favorite from the class brainstorm and/or choose a different one entirely if it is not on the list to explain in further detail. Also, students have the option to create their own list of holiday favorites.
Students will brainstorm a list of their personal favorites that could potentially be given away on a platform similar to what has been shown on Oprah or Ellen. Students will identify their top five favorite things that they currently use and/or have and explain what makes that item so valuable. Also, students will have to clearly describe the product, its cost, and its possible benefits for others.
This activity will give students the opportunity to brainstorm items that may be a bit unrealistic at this point (financially) but fun to imagine being able to share with others. Students will use the brainstorm sheet to ponder a variety of favorites including items, vacations, and experiences. After the initial brainstorm, students will then select one of each (item, vacation, and experience) from their brainstorm and expand on each in a separate handout.
