With this activity, the students are digging deeper into nonfiction reading passages and answering comprehension questions about countries that they have studied (or will study) in sixth grade Social Studies in Georgia. Your students will love learning about the different ways people celebrate holidays, and it is the PERFECT activity to lead up to Winter Break!
This Gallery Walk is a fun and engaging way for students to learn about the different holiday traditions of the countries that they have studied (or will study) in class. The countries included are: United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, Canada (and a separate one for Quebec), Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, and Australia. Each poster includes images and key information about the holiday traditions.
In order to set up the Gallery Walk, you will print and cut out the 9 posters and then tape the posters around your classroom, spacing them out so that they aren’t too close together. During the Gallery Walk, the students will move around the room and read each poster. They will answer questions and draw images about different traditions on their Holiday Passport sheets.
