Skills: Students will spend 2 weeks studying 9 different holidays that occur in the Christmas season. Students will create a holiday wreath using souvenir items that they earn while learning about the cultures and tradition of these holidays.
Included in this file you will find vocabulary, unscramble, ABC order and 2 different songs and chants. You will also receive a brief background on each holiday, an activity, and souvenir to add to their wreath. Such as a paper bag pinata craft for Christmas in Mexico or a poinsettia felt pin. Students will make Holiday cards to celebrate Christmas in England and make Pepernoten cookies for Christmas in Holland.
You will also receive my 5 Days Before Christmas Break song and gift ideas. Click the tree to hear the tune of the song. Included is a gift tag for Snowman Soup.
You will also get a Light Me up activity to go along with the book Welcome Comfort by Patricia Polacco. Students will decorate paper Christmas bulbs and string them in the hallway. Send out the letter to other staff members so that they can share what lights them up.
You will see how I use my Wreath of Many Seasons and make thumbprint light bulb cards with your class.
Your class will make a list for decorating a Christmas tree and design their own reindeer!
There also is a mini book study for the book The Mitten Mystery. I read this book to my students and then we make our Snowbricks which are the cutest ever holiday parent gift! This mini unit includes pre reading and vocabulary activities. My directions will walk you through making the snowbricks and also some persuasive writing. Each writing sheet is made with lines for younger and older grades.
Students will also graph what the best hand cover is for the winter...gloves or mittens. The unit ends with some math problem solving word problems.
This is a perfect unit to jump start December with your students!
