Could the Holocaust happen again? What are your responsibilities in a global society? This lesson has been newly redesigned to include two different engaging activities.

In this first activity, students will learn about the Holocaust and genocide as they visit four different stations in a museum-like experience. At each station, your students will be exposed to primary source images, quotations, maps and readings as they learn about the Holocaust.

The activity begins with a provocative quote and question - Could the Holocaust happen again? The presentation will guide your students through a brief timeline and directions for completing the activity. As your students travel through the Holocaust Museum they take notes as eye-witness accounts to the Holocaust. The activity concludes with a higher level analysis - which of these quotes describes the Holocaust?

You will receive:

A handout with specific teacher directions - how to set up your room, direct your students, etc.

A Graphic Organizer - you can run this off back to back or staple it together to make a mini-book

Presentation with student directions - This is a PDF you can use to give your students specific directions for each station

Signs for the different stations: The Ghettos, Concentration Camps, The Resistance and Other Genocides - I would run these off on different colored paper to make them really pop!

Placards with primary source images, quotes and maps - just like in a real museum! Students have the opportunity to look at "artifacts".

Readings for each of the four topics - these are short "chunked" reading selections or key quotes to help your students understand each topic

And updated for 2017 - The Holocaust, A Structured Discussion

Explore the essential question, What are your responsibilities in a global society? in a structured discussion. Students will start the lesson examining the roles of a victim, bystander, perpetrator and resister with quotes. They will then read primary sources and discuss questions centered around the Holocaust.

You will receive:

-A PowerPoint presentation to guide you through the process,

-Handouts for your students to read with primary sources,

-Discussion questions.

This is an ideal activity to preview the Holocaust if you teach The Diary of Anne Frank.

This activity contains graphic images - not intended for a younger audience. You can modify the activity to remove some of the images if you are using it with your younger students. In order to support continued education on the Holocaust, all profits from this lesson will be donated to the Holocaust Museum in Houston.

Images are from the public domain.
